Ankle-ligament-injuries treatment - Liberty Orthopaedic Clinic

Ankle ligament injuries

These injuries commonly occur as ankle sprains. Most sprains are minor and heal with simple RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) treatment. In more severe injuries, the ankle will be very swollen and painful, bruised and difficult to walk on. In such situations, the ligament may be completely ruptured. Without proper treatment, it can result in repeated ankle sprains (“weak ankle”) and long-term problems. The most commonly injured ligament in the ankle causing instability is the ATFL – Anterior TaloFibular Liagment.
